Introduction
What This Course Is About
You’ll discover what it means to develop a giving consciousness, what the truth is about money, how to replace a consciousness of lack with a lasting consciousness of abundance, and more. Compare and contrast Charles Fillmore’s Prosperity with Eric Butterworth’s Spiritual Economics as you study substance, the activity of mind, faith, and visualization. After exploring the ways you can use these ideas in your daily life, you’ll put them into practice in a “real life” prosperity project. Sharing your prosperity project and its results with your classmates is encouraged, yet optional.

How the Course Is Presented
The instructor will prepare a Learning Guide for each week’s work. The Learning Guide will include comments about the topic to be studied during the week plus suggestions about what to look for in the assigned readings.

Along with this posting, the instructor will initiate discussion threads by posting specific questions related to the week’s topic of study. Students will be able to post responses to the discussion questions, respond to other students’ postings, and ask questions of interest to the class. The instructor will respond as appropriate.

Questions of special interest to individual students will be answered by e-mail.

Learning Objectives
On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Explain in their own words the most important prosperity teachings of Eric Butterworth and Charles Fillmore.
  • Identify elements in their own prosperity consciousness where healing may be needed.
  • Apply the Butterworth and/or Fillmore prosperity teachings to those areas of their lives.

  • A journal to record your thoughts.

Requirements for Students
Complete Assigned Readings
 Reading assignments will vary in length, with no week’s assignment being overly long. Readings from recommended books will be listed along with readings from required texts. Although not obligatory, the recommended readings will add to your learning experience.

Prayer, Reflection, and Journaling
 Only you will know how much prayer, reflection, and journaling about the ideas we’re studying will be “enough” for you. Certainly no one is going to “check up” on your prayer life or ask to see your journal. Please remember, though, that prayer, reflection, and journaling are essential if you wish to really “appropriate” the ideas we’re studying. You’ll probably find that this will be the most fulfilling work you’ll do in the course!

Participate in Online Discussions
Several questions will be posted in the discussion forum each week. Students are asked to post a response to at least two discussion questions and to respond to other students’ postings as they feel inspired to do so. Questions where everyone’s response is expected will be marked “Required.”

Visit Recommended Web Sites and Recommend Web Sites You Have Discovered
The instructor may suggest Web sites related to course content. You are encouraged to visit the recommended Web sites. You are also encouraged to do your own “surfing” or exploring for Web sites related to the course material and let others in the class know of any pertinent sites you’ve found.

Prosperity Project and Final Paper—“What I’ve Discovered”
Within three weeks of the completion of the course, each student will e-mail to the instructor a 250- to 1000-word essay as text in the body of an e-mail message. The subject line of the e-mail message should read “ESEE Prosperity assignment.” Please e-mail your assignment to both of the addresses for the instructor that are listed at the top of this syllabus.

The essay should explain at least one insight the student has gained through her or his work in this course and describe how she or he has put that insight to practical use. In all likelihood, your essay will be a discussion of the prosperity project you undertook as part of your work in the course.
Grading
As is the case with all SEE courses, evaluation for Prosperity will be based on a Credit/No Credit system. To successfully complete Prosperity, students must participate in each week’s Discussion Forum. A grade of "incomplete" will be assigned for any students who do not sufficiently participate in the discussion, and additional assignments will be required to remove the incomplete grade. When approved, students will be awarded 10 required Spiritual Education and Enrichment credits. The registrar’s office will mail written notification.
