Along with this posting, faculty will initiate discussion threads by posting specific questions related to the week’s topic of study. Students will be able to post responses to the discussion questions, respond to other students’ postings, and present questions to the class. Faculty will respond as appropriate.

Requirements for Students
Complete Assigned Readings
The reading assignments will not be lengthy. However, the nature of the material requires careful reading and reflection. Reading about related topics in the recommended texts will enhance your understanding of the material but is not required.

Participate in Online Discussions
Several questions will be posted in the discussion forum each week. Students are asked to post a response to discussion questions and to respond to other students’ postings as they feel inspired. The number of questions you are required to respond to will be noted each week but will never exceed two questions. You may answer as many questions as you wish. Questions where everyone’s response is expected will be marked "Required."

Periodic Online Exams
There will be a midterm and final exam, and the exam will explore your knowledge of the metaphysical terminology used in the assigned reading. Exams will be posted, completed online, and automatically graded.

Metaphysics I, Part 1, Project and Final Paper
  • Choose at least one idea from the book or class and create a way to put it into practice.
  • Practice it for at least 21 days.
  • Write a 500- to 800-word paper based on your experience. In the paper, describe the idea, what happened, what you learned, and how this may affect your life.
Enriching the Experience
Prayer, Reflection, and Journaling
Each individual is expected to invest some time in prayer, reflection, and journaling. The amount of time invested is certainly up to the individual and will therefore vary from person to person. However, these practices are essential to your understanding and realization of the truths. You will discover that this is your most fulfilling work during the course.

Web Research:
Searching the Web for related information is highly encouraged, and we hope the fruits of your searches will be shared with the rest of the class.
Evaluation/Grades
As is the case with all SEE courses, evaluation for Metaphysics I is based on a Credit/No Credit system. To successfully complete Metaphysics I, students must:
  • Participate in each week’s Discussion Forum.
  • Pass the online tests.
  • Complete the metaphysics project and write the paper.
Once the paper is received and evaluated as a "Pass," students will be awarded 10 required Spiritual Education and Enrichment credits. The registrar’s office will mail written notification.
